A weekly Fit For Marriage message from Russell Yates, a man with a compelling message—
straight from the Bible—that challenges the disintegration of the Christian family.
ARTICLESWhat Can One Man Do?The film “The Passion of the Christ,” reminded us what one man can do. But Jesus was no ordinary man. What can one ordinary man do? Our world is endangered from within and without. Marriage and family are not just insecure; even the institution is being contested. Politicians and the judiciary would like to rewrite the Constitution. A mother's womb is no longer a safe place. The dominant news is little more than propaganda. Terrorism makes no sense, yet it is a frightening reality. What can one man do? Israel has long been the victim of suicide bombers—next came America. Now Spain has become the target. Another report tells us they are deliberately setting forest fires for the purpose of destroying the economy of the West. What can one man do? How does our present situation tie in with the passage that follows? I will send you [one man] Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children … lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. Malachi 4:5-6, emphasis added
The idea of one man taking the initiative and solving the problem is not new: A Philistine named Goliath appeared, day after day, to challenge Israel. Many people had ideas on how to deal with the giant, but David was the one man God had called for the job—no one else would do. Still, David had to sell the project to King Saul (1 Samuel 17:31-37). Finally the king said, “Go, and the LORD be with thee.”
A Giant ContradictionLet me make a comparison between marriage and “gay marriage.” Christians argue as follows: A homosexual lifestyle is a sinful lifestyle, so “gay marriage” is just an attempt to legitimize sin. They do not hestitate to quote Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:24-27, etc. to make their point. The Bible also has some things to say about heterosexual marriage. Ephesians 5:22-25 e.g. says a woman should submit to her husband and a man should love his wife. Most Christians carefully ignore biblical teaching on submission. It is dreadfully unpopular—even in church. Cultural ideas about submission are quite different from what the Bible actually means. So the question becomes: Are you willing to resist the culture? Many Christians rightly understand Biblical teaching on submission, but refuse to stand up for what is right. The Bible says you should remove the log from your own eye before attempting to remove the speck from the eye of your brother (see Luke 6:42). No established ministry has been willing to tackle the submission issue. Could one man actually solve the problem? Or at least get the ball rolling in the right direction? My wife and I have a unique testimony and a persuasive word. Our Fit For Marriage program will provide the following:
If you're not willing to settle for superficial religion, shallow relationships, or a counterfeit marriage—if you want genuine friendship, marital intimacy, and wholesome, well-adjusted children—we invite you to join our association.
